We’re looking for someone to lead our team in the area of user experience and information architecture. Our current Director of User Experience, Jim Vogt, is going off to graduate school at Carnegie Mellon. We’re excited for him but it leaves us with a big hole!
You might be the person to fill it if:
- you’re ready to lead our clients through the process of understanding their audiences, uncovering the real story, and designing experiences that move people to act.
- you’ve got 5 or more years experience working with user experience/human factors/human computer interaction/information architecture - whatever you want to call it. Not just building web sites - you need to know your UX stuff. If you’ve never heard of Jared Spool, Jakob Nielson, Steve Krug or Jesse James Garrett, don’t bother to apply.
- you enjoy mentoring and developing the strengths of others.
- you like the idea of working in small teams with peers. By “peers” we mean people who know their stuff and can be counted on to deliver. Not a lot of hierarchy or bureaucracy.
- you’re comfortable giving presentations and teaching user experience principles in any setting.
- you want to live in a high-tech college town in the mountains, while working for world-class clients. Think “10 minute commute” and “20 minutes to the Appalachian Trail.”
You’ll lead the efforts of 3-4 other UX architects, in addition to working on your own projects. For each project, you’ll work with a project manager who will be responsible for more of the business side of the project. The UX architect uncovers client goals, researches audience needs, and creates an overall plan for the experience. He or she then stays involved throughout the project to ensure that as the designs come together and production moves forward, the project is staying true to the original vision in every aspect. While keeping the client’s goals in mind, the UX architect is an advocate for the overall delight of the end-user.
